Peatland Protection means Climate Protection

Recently, we took part in the first moor excursion in Ebersberg as part of a Zukunft+ campaign. In this area a significant expanse of peatland is undergoing a process of renaturalization.

To track the success of the measures, we prepared boreholes with the project implementers from CO2-regio. At points that had been precisely measured beforehand we joined about 10 volunteers to drill some boreholes. The drilling was performed manually, and the measuring stations were anchored in the boreholes.

In future, the measuring stations will provide valuable data on the water level in the area in order to track the success of the revitalization measures. Peatland do not only make a significant contribution to the preservation of biodiversity, but also are outstanding in their importance as climate protectors and CO2 sinks.

This is an auspicious beginning for a long-term project.
